Eye Protection--sport not listed?
We get this question a lot. On our sports goggles, there are only certain sports listed on the tag that they are rated for. So we often get ask, "are you sure we can use them for this sport if it is not listed?" The answer is yes. Only specific sports where eyewear is required like racquetball and women's lacrosse will be listed. However, the ASTM F803 Standard covers all ball/stick/bat sports. So as long as the eyewear meets the ASTM F803 standard, it will work for the sport you are using it for if it is not an eyewear required sport. For instance, for soccer, eyewear is not required, so it is not one of the sports listed on the tag of the eyewear. But all the ASTM F803 rated frames will be ok for use while playing soccer. The sports listed on the tag have to be independently rated for that specific sport in order to meet the safety standard for the sport. These are typically sports that eyewear is required for participation. Thus the governing agencies need to make sure that the eyewear is protecting properly by looking to the paperwork provided by the manufacturer. A good example is women's lacrosse. Unfortunately, there are not a large selection of eyewear that has been independently certified for women's lacrossse. For instance, the Rec-Specs sports goggles are all ASTM F803 rated, but they have not be independently tested for women's lacrosse. So in this instance, they would not be able to be used according to most governing agencies for the sport. However, the Hilco sports goggles have been independently tested for women's lacrosse, so this is listed on their tag. Basically, if your sport requires eyewear, then you will need to make sure that your sport is listed on the tag. However, if eyewear is not required and you are only needing to wear it for protection or because you need prescription, then as long as the glasses meet the ASTM F803 standard, they will protect your eyes properly for the sport.

Chat with customer on Football Goggles
Customer: Yes I was looking for goggles for football. Which would you recommend?
shannen: Ok, look at the either the REc-Specs Helmet Specs 3 at http://www.sporteyes.com/rsgog.htm or the Hilco T-Zone where you can buy a helmet adapter strap separately at http://www.sporteyes.com/hilco.htm. These are the only styles that will work with football helmets.

Help with Ordering Rudy Project Horus
Copy of online chat with a customer:
shannen: Hi, May I help you?
Visitor: Yes, I have a question about prescription Rudy Project Horus glasses.
shannen: ok
Visitor: I'm interested in them, PD = 62, prescription is -4/-3.75. I'm trying to figure out how much it would cost for a photochomic pair of lenses (and if those exist in my prescription) + another color prescription lenses.
Visitor: A little confused by the web page and pricing here: http://asightforspo247.corecommerce.com/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=14
shannen: Ok do you just need lenses or do you need the frames themselves with 2 pair of prescription lenses?
Visitor: Sorry, good point. Frames + prescription photochromic lenses (if those exist in my prescription) + normal prescription lenses.
shannen: Ok, so the frames you would pick your color. For instance, Silver/MultiLaser Blue for $175.
Visitor: With you so far.
shannen: Then you would scroll down to find the Direct In Free Form Prescription section and select ImpactX Photo Clear lenses
shannen: $270.
Visitor: Ok.
Visitor: Still with you.
shannen: The second pair of lenses gets tricky. The way the Horus works is it has a gasket that surrounds the prescription lens and that part pops in and out. So you would need to buy another gasket. The way to do this is buy a replacement lens part for $65 so for instance, under add replacement lenses, you'd select Silver/Laser Blue for $65.
shannen: You would then pick the other color prescription lens you would want under the Add direct in prescription lenses section.
Visitor: Yes, this is where I get confused. So you buy a non-prescription lens and a prescription lens to get the prescription lens?
shannen: Yes, they will toss out the non-prescription lens that is in the frame part and replace it with the prescription lenses.
Visitor: Does it matter what color non-prescription lens you order? I'm guessing the answer is no to that one. Aha - since they toss that lens, I was right.
shannen: No, only the frame part so that you make sure it matches the frame you are getting. The lens in there is of no matter.
Visitor: So it'd be $210 for another set of prescription lenses. $145 for the prescription bit + $65 for the non prescription bit.
shannen: Yes.
Visitor: And to confirm, if you're only getting one set of prescription lenses, you don't need to also get non-prescription lenses. The frame comes with one "gasket," right?
shannen: Correct.
Visitor: So frame + photochromic lenses = $445. Add another pair of prescription lenses and you add $210 more for a total of $655. If that's correct you've removed my confusion.
Visitor: (So is that correct?)
shannen: That is correct.
Visitor: Excellent. Thank you.
shannen: Is it ok to use your comments on our site to help customers in the future?
Visitor: Yes indeed. Go right ahead.

Question from Customer: Lacrosse Eyewear
Question from customer: Do most/any of your goggles meet the standards for lacrosse protective eyewear? I don’t see it as a pull down option on your home page. My daughter needs a prescription included.
Answer: Women’s lacrosse is tricky. They goggles have to be certified specifically for women’s lacrosse, not just meet the ASTM standard as goggles for other sports do. For men’s lacrosse, they only have to meet the ASTM standard. But women’s lacrosse goggles have to be independently certified specifically for lacrosse, not just for general sports use. The Hilco T-zone, Jam'n and Zoom are the only ones that we have that have been certified specifically for women’s lacrosse and can be fit with prescription. You can view them at http://ping.fm/Ik7Ai
